Division of Service to Military Personnel subject files (1964-1987) contain correspondence; minutes; memoranda; chaplains' reports; Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA) participating church body social statements; church body chaplaincy procedures and applications; Division publications and manuals; U.S. Armed Forces chaplaincy regulations, policies, manuals, and publications; magazine articles; and news clippings regarding the Division's activities in providing church body endorsements of chaplains for military service, maintaining close contact with the U.S. Armed Forces establishment and Lutheran chaplains; providing chaplain training workshops and programs; and publishing materials for ministry to military personnel. Subjects addressed by church body statements, articles, and news clippings include military and civilian. Chaplaincy, conscientious objection, draft registration, drug abuse, nuclear armament, and war and peace issues. Correspondence is that of the Division's Executive Secretaries William J. Reiss and Magnus P. Lutness and their staff including Bertram C. Gilbert, Milton Ernstmeyer, Victor H. Schroeder, and James E. Shaw.
